About Picture Kelpies for Grown-ups

Based in Edinburgh, Floris Books is passionate about the Scottish content of the Picture Kelpies. By setting all our books in Scotland, or giving them Scottish themes, children living in Scotland can read and enjoy books they can relate to.

Buying Picture Kelpies

This Picture Kelpies website is intended for young children to enjoy with their parents or carers. It does not, therefore, include an option to buy the books featured.

If you would like to buy a Picture Kelpie, they're widely available (dependent on publication date) in local and national bookshops, and any bookshop will be able to order one for you. You can also order online of course from most major online book retailers.

Kelpies and Young Kelpies for older children

The Picture Kelpies range is inspired by the Kelpies range of children's fiction, published by Floris Books since 2001. The Kelpies range comprises over 40 children's novels set in Scotland or with Scottish themes. Kelpies are suitable for children from roughly 8 to 12-years-old. We also have a range for younger readers between roughly 6 and 9-years-old called the Young Kelpies. All Kelpies have a cracking story, strong characters, believable dialogue and a compelling atmosphere.

The Discover Kelpies website at www.discoverkelpies.co.uk is a fun, age-appropriate website for older children to find out more about these books.

Games and Activities

All the games and activities on the Picture Kelpies website are suitable for 3 to 6-year-olds and are designed to entertain and encourage creativity. The level of difficulty relates to the probable reading age for each book. Games and activities can be printed out; however they are for personal use only and should not be used in schools or nurseries.

Picture Kelpies Gallery

We will endeavour to put all pictures sent to us on to the Picture Kelpies Gallery within a reasonable amount of time. Picture can be emailed to picturekelpies@picturekelpies.co.uk (JPEG format preferred, no bigger than 2MB please) or posted to Picture Kelpies Gallery, c/o Floris Books (see details below) where they will be scanned and uploaded. Please ensure that you include your child's name, age and town so that images can be corrected attributed, and also which Picture Kelpie book inspired their picture.
